STACK
tyre monitoring
systems utilise state of the art SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) technology
to sense the tyre pressures and temperatures. SAW technology enables
the sensors to be located within the rims without
the need for a battery power source. Instead the STACK "interrogator"
module outputs an RF (Radio Frequency) signal via an antenna mounted
in the vicinity of each wheel. This RF signal is utilized by the
sensors as their only source of power, as well as means of communication.
Conventional
tyre monitoring systems utilise microprocessor based sensors
which monitor tyre pressure and temperature and then transmit
this information to a receiver unit within the vehicle. The electronics
within the sensor module require some form of power which is usually
in the form of a lithium battery.
Battery
powered TPMS sensors offer a cost affective solution for passenger
vehicle applications. While these conventional TPM Systems can
also be utilised in racing and competition applications, they
impose a limitation in the ability to swap tyres during pit stops
and do not cater to interfacing with remote telemetry or data
logging systems. In addition these systems have relatively slow
sampling rates.
Stack
technology overcomes these limitations and provides the ultimate
solution for tyre monitoring in motor sport applications.
